You will have learned after doing this workshop:
Participants will have learned how to improve their existing English lyric writing, work with concepts and new ideas, recognise and refine their preferred writing styles and develop their work to fit in with the international English language recording market.

What materials/equipment you need to bring to be able to do this workshop:
Writing materials, examples of their own written or recorded work.

Other important things a participant should know to be able to do this workshop:
The sessions are suitable for singer-songwriters, lyrics-only writers (who work in collaboration), and also composers seeking to develop a deeper understanding of the craft of lyric writing. It is hoped that there will be an opportunity to showcase new work with a wider audience during the week.

The content of this workshop is:
Session 1. will examine the craft, mechanics and organisation of the words on the page, considering pace, style, structure, rhyme, scansion, delivery
Session 2. will look at the message, content, inspiration, questions of taste and originality, meaning, editing, relevance, who or what the song is for
Session 3. will deal with ‘putting the song to work’ in particular situations, the mission, the focus, the context in which the work is set, evaluation
Session 4. will draw together the aspirations for the work, exposure, criticism, re-writing, collaboration, market trends, shelf-life, promotion
