Phil Thomson

Phil Thomson’s passion is words; particularly in the language which reaches into everyone’s heart and soul – the song. His lyrics inspire, challenge and surprise us into knowing more about ourselves and our journey of faith. And, as with any artist of note, his way of communicating has changed lives.

With hundreds of songs released in CD, album and video formats, he has considerable experience of the world of lyrics and poetry. His collaborations in individual titles, musical theatre and concept works have featured on BBC Radio and TV and in concerts as far apart as St. Petersburg, Perth Australia and Florida USA. The labels include MCA, CBS, Word, Elektra, Chapel Lane and Motown – and credits are also just as likely to appear whether browsing to The Ronduit Gospel Choir, an offering from Spring Harvest or a Hodder & Stoughton Hymnal.

His musicals and commissions have included partnerships with BBC and national charities, resulting in stage works which have filled UK cathedrals, mainlined festivals and played venues such as The Albert Hall, London; Linder Auditorium, Johannesburg; and the De Doelen, Rotterdam,

In pursuit of his craft, Phil has put words in the mouths of some pretty interesting people: Bonnie Bramlett, Mark Williamson, Ralph Van Manen, Paul Field, Dana, Adrian Snell, Martyn Joseph, Caroline Bonnett, Sir Cliff Richard – and indeed, all of us who find our thoughts reflected in a personal moment of revelation. It is a journey which continues in good company.

Phil lives in Bentley Heath, West Midlands with his wife, Hazel, and their Old English Sheepdog Max, who runs the household. He is Deputy Director of Post Graduate Studies in the Department of Visual Communication at Birmingham City University, UK
