When asked, Eckhard elucidates:
“I keep wondering about this amazing fact: God watches me over my shoulder while I am painting and rejoices over me. The Father invests in my life! He refuses to instrumentalize me in any way, but on the contrary keeps releasing me into freedom! It´s all about living the gift!
In all pressures of life we have to allow and fight for space to that calling. Vital traits are dedication, discipline and persistence. Particularly as artists we venture into the fluent frontiers! This equally holds chance and danger. As christians bound by Christ everything is allowable (1 Cor. 10:23-24). Specificly on this dynamic grounds the particular strenght of an artist comes into play. I can pursue matters of totally subjective interest, even if I´m the only one ever able to decode its meaning. Living out the creative-expressive mandate, whether or not I grasp what is occuring. As artists we do this, exactly because we´re able to. In a way this is pure luxury. Leonardo designed his helicopter-prototype even though he wasn´t able to actually realize it. This touches on prophecy.
The sacred is also involved in my work, and radiates a sense of heavenly beauty. Stronger than non-christians, we can express hope in a broken world. We know the well, we are gifted and live the mystery.”
