Sónia Oliviera

Sónia Oliveira (born February 17, 1985 in Sintra, Portugal), started to reveal her musical skills when she was just a little girl. She would sing to her family at age 3, but her official music career only began at age 9, when she began music lessons.
That same year, she performed on a Portuguese television show, and from that moment on, Sónia knew she wanted to be a ‘real’ singer and part of ‘show biz’.

Once she started music lessons, she began playing piano, but later, at the age of 12, when her voice began to mature, she started to train, learning singing technique, how to breathe correctly, and how to use her natural skills and talent.

Sónia formed her first band when she was only 13. The band played a variety of styles such as rock, pop, jazz and latin. This band took Sónia to a number of stages, giving her the opportunity to do a tour as a lead singer. She did backing vocals, as well, for some of the most popular Portuguese artists.

At the age of 15 Sónia started to have music lessons with a brilliant teacher: Jorge Lee. With Lee she learned a lot of new things, including vocal technique…at a higher level! She took frequent breaks from her studies due to tours and school, but Lee is still her favourite teacher in the world!

One year later, Sónia was forced to stop: She was in high school and dedicated most of her time studying in order to have good marks for college entrance. During that time, she stopped the live performances, but dedicated time to writing songs.

Then, when Sónia entered College she returned to musical performing! At that time she prepared a little acoustic project: just 2 guitars and Sónia’s voice. The “Naked Songs Trio” performed at the most important bars in Lisbon from 2004 to 2006.

However, in September 2004, Sónia already had a lot of original songs, and she started preparing her debut album. It was very difficult for her to find the right people to work with her on this project, but she met her producer in May 2005. In August they entered the studio!

One year later the result of their hard work was released: “Sónia Oliveira” is the name of her debut album, available now on stores and online.
Throughout 2006, Sónia found herself as a solo singer, performing on the most well-known Portuguese television shows and radio stations. Sónia did live shows as well, the most important being the “ROCKTOBER” festival, sponsored by the Hard Rock Café – Lisbon.

Right now, she’s on studio, working on her second solo album.
